Targeted Traffic
Your job as an affiliate marketer is to get more visitors to the product sales page. Those visitors are your 'traffic'. The more traffic you have, the greater your chance of a sale. But the traffic must be targetted, i.e. it must be made up of people who are interested in that product or something like it.
here is a list of methods to get more targeted traffic which have been proved to work and increase sales.
Articles
Write, or have written for you, informative articles, relating to your product. people using the internet for products generally want information about the product. Provide this in the articles. You can include links to your website or sales page within the body of the article as well as in your signature box at the end of the article.
E-mail campaigns
This really applies if you have an existing list of previous customers or those to whom you may have sent a free gift. Used carefully, e-mail campaigns can easily drive targeted traffic to your affiliate marketing site. This can be done by providing highly relevant and valuable information in the body of the message and then offering a link that will bring the recipients into your site.
You can do this two ways: one is by providing the full content in the e-mail message and then offering a link inviting the recipient to view more similar write-ups on your site. Another is by giving only a portion of the content and offering the rest on the affiliate site. A linked e-mail signature should also be included.
Newsletters and e-zines
If you submit your articles to web directories it is likely they will be used in newsletters or ezines. But there is nothing to stop you writing to the publishers of relevant ezines and offering your article to them. Ensure you have links in the article leading back to your website or sales page.
Blogs
Other than your affiliate marketing site, use a blog to get in touch with prospective customers and members. Blogs are considerably more personal and lighter in tone than most affiliate business sites and they can be a great source of information, news, advice and tips from you to your prospects. Include a link from your blog to your affiliate marketing site. Visit other blogs in the same niche and offer your comments on the posts there, making sure to get a link back to your website or sales page.
Social bookmarking sites
Create your own Squidoo lens or Twitter page and link these to your website or sales page. These sites are a rich source of targeted traffic that you can drive to your affiliate marketing site.
Discussion forums and boards
Locate the forums which are relevant to your product. Try to answer other people's questions and put a link in your signature file to your website. By being helpful and not blatantly selling anything, you'll find that people will begin to trust you and will use the link you provide.
Allow bookmarks on your web pages
If you have content, you can drive traffic to your affiliate marketing site by allowing your readers to bookmark certain pages. This will help promote those pages and your website to other people who might be interested in the same subjects.
Host a contest
Locate your target market (in forums, ezines,etc) and then promote a contest through ads or e-mails. All details must be found on your affiliate marketing website so you can drive traffic there. Registration must also be performed on one of your landing pages. Just make sure to offer prizes that visitors will find useful.
Freebies!
Everybody loves a free gift. It can be a short report, an ebook or a sample of a product. Ensure your visitors sign into your autoresponder to get this so you can follow them up with further emails promoting your product.
Traffic Exchanges
These are not necessarily very focussed as they are mainly used by other website owners to promote their own products. But they tend to be a free means of advertising and are simple to set up so why not use them?
No product will sell on the internet unless you promote it to people who have an interest in such a product. The ideas above are just some of the ways of being an effective affiliate marketer and you should be using all these methods to see great returns for your efforts.
